Dear students,

Here is the link to allow you to watch the video report on "Early History of Jamestown".

Contrary to what someone had said yesterday, this link does work and the video is still there. Clic on "streaming video" and choose Windows Media Player (high speed connection). I've just tried it again and it does work:

ATTENDANCE RULES / GRADING POLICY

Dear students,

Attendance is compulsory: unlike in L2 and in M1, there is no "contrôle final" in L3 because the English course is optional in L3. Should the students be absent 3 times (ie 2 + 1) without providing a valid and sincere justification, they are automatically excluded from the English class which means they will not have any grades at all in English even if they had taken part in some of the exams during the semester.

In case you fail to be present for a class session (for justified or unjustified reason), you will have to do all the exercises from a unit/chapter of your choice from the grammar textbook (English Grammar in Use by Raymond Murphy). You will have to hand in these exercises the following class otherwise you will get a zero. This assignment must be handwritten NOT typed.

If you have no valid and sincere justification for your possible absence for the short tests and quizzes that will also take place during the semester, you will get a zero.

Best regards,

MN

IMPORTANT CLARIFICATION / LATEST UPDATED INFORMATION

Dear students,

I have just received this clarification from the History department about an important aspect of the English class in L3.

Unlike in L2 and in M1, there is no "contrôle final" in L3 because the English course is optional in L3. Should the students be absent 3 times (ie 2 + 1) without providing a valid and sincere justification, they are automatically excluded from the English class which means they will not have any grades at all in English even if they had taken part in some of the exams during the semester.

All the previous indications and information that could have contradicted this latest updated clarification are not valid.

Best regards,

Dear students,

They will not be allowed to sit the end of the semester exam without my prior and explicit agreement.

MN

Useful Websites on False Friends

Here are two websites that could be useful for your exercises on false friends:

Attendance Rules

Attendance is compulsory for those who are in "contrôle continu": if you are absent 3 times (ie 2+1) for unjustified reasons, if you cannot provide me with a valid and sincere justification, you will be automatically registered in "contrôle final".

Those of you who would like to be in "contrôle final", I recommend that you come and talk to me about this at the end or at the beginning of a class or send me an email about this as soon as possible

In case you fail to be present for a class session (for justified or unjustified reason), you will have to do all the exercises from a unit/chapter of your choice from the grammar textbook (English Grammar in Use by Murphy). You will have to hand in these exercises the following class otherwise you will get a zero. This assignment must be handwritten NOT typed.

In "contrôle continu", in case you fail to be present at one of the two main exam sessions, you will be automatically registered in "contrôle final" even if you have a valid and sincere justification.

In "contrôle continu", if you have no valid and sincere justification for your possible absence for the short tests and quizzes that will also take place during the semester, you will get a zero.

Permanent link for documents (audio reports, transcripts, etc.)

Here is the link all L3 students (Tuesday and Thursday groups) will have to use to find the documents (audio reports, phrasal verbs, vocabulary, etc.) used and discussed during the class sessions:
